Clasroom Monitor or EExAT for year R?

Recommended Posts

We are looking to buy in an electronic assessment tracking system just for Year R.

We need to do away with all paper observations and add photos directly to the assessment system.

What would you recommend?

Thank you for any suggestions.

Thank you, Rebecca. Apologies for delay in replying.

I cannot find a clear explanation on the site as to what Tapestry actually does, apart from log photos and observations. Are observations typed in or scribed as they occur or at the end of a session? Can multiple children be tagged to the same observation? Is there the facility to link to EY Outcomes, Developmental Bands or ELGs? (How is progress tracked?)

Does each member of staff need a tablet?

We currently have limited internet access due to building works and no staff designated tablets so will need these for a trial.

If anyone else can help, please post!

Hi Elaine

Let me try and help.

Are observations typed in or scribed as they occur or at the end of a session? Tapestry is an oline resource so you can log in and add observations as you go through the day or if it is easier because of the 'limited access to wifi due to building works' then you can make notes and type them up at the end of the day.

Can multiple children be tagged to the same observation? Yes, you can do group or individual observations. You can do a group one and then split off children to make individual assessments.

Is there the facility to link to EY Outcomes, Developmental Bands or ELGs? Yes the EYFS is one of the assessment criteria you can select to use along with KS1 & KS2 to name a few (full list can be seen here)

(How is progress tracked?) You can track progress using the snapshot screen, age band tracker and comparison screens within the analysis section (for an idea of how these screens look see here)

Does each member of staff need a tablet? Tapestry is web based so you can use a mixture of tablets and PC/Laptops. Many settings have several staff sharing tablets. It depends on how many observations you want your staff to make each day I guess.

We currently have limited internet access due to building works and no staff designated tablets so will need these for a trial. Tapestry is an online system and so that may be an issue for you. Would your internet access improve once the building work is finished?

Lots of information available on https://tapestry.info/

I hope this helps but do ask if you have more questions ::1a

Hello,

My colleague wondered whether you all had any advice to offer over baseline assessments for EY.

They have used EExBA for the past two years as they felt it was the one that fitted in best with the Early Years ethos based on observations. However, it doesn't fit with Target Tracker which is what they use for the rest of their data throughout the year.

Because EExBA was used for their baseline, their first set of Target Tracker data was December which felt like it was late on in the Autumn Term. The team are currently looking at whether Target Tracker will allow them to input as a baseline but if not they are not sure whether to go with EExBA again or not.

Is anyone else having this debate? What have you decided to do? EExBA or Target Tracker?

Thank you...

Have you considered Tapestry? You can export data from Tapestry via pdf/csv files at the end of the reception year, and you can create baselines against which to compare future progress.

Many schools are now using Tapestry throughout KS1 and 2 to provide a seamless observation and assessment system right through early years and primary- we are currently adding some new snapshots screens to the KS1 and 2 assessments which will provide your SLT with the data they need to track progress through the levels-free world we're now in!
