Risk Assessments

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me. Is it neccessary to have risk assesments for everything in your setting i.e. toys? We do a risk assessment twice a day which covers the room, kitchen and outside area. I have also created risk assessments for staff who are pregnant or anyone who is in the setting that has not been DBS checked. I will also be doing one for using the school grounds with the pre-school children. But am aware previously there has been a risk assessment done on just about everything. We regularly check our resources for damage and wash them and record this. We also have our policies and procedures for things like nappy changes etc. Thank you!

We ensure that the toys available are to british safety standards (think this is shown on our inventory list) and also toys are suitable for the age of children attending.

As you say you check the resources twice a day so any breakages etc would be noticed and taken away .

We have a checklist each day for the setting indoors and outdoors. We have written risk assessments for any type of outing and a fire risk assessment but we don't do them for things like toys etc. A risk assessment does not have to be written, you can be doing them by just looking at things, for example when you walk into a room and there is a toy on the floor, you may move it to stop someone tripping on it, or if something is dirty, you clean it.

Hi Finleysmaid is the soft play something you have purchased or hired for a one day event.

We recently hired a soft play package and under the terms and conditions it listed all possible hazards and guidance for children's safety both if for use outside or in our case indoors.

weve hired it for a function tomorrow (we should have been in the forest nut the sites not safe) so we've had to organise something VERY quickly ...im hoping the company comes up with the assessment as you say ...was trying to cover my back in case!
