I have a job applicant who states that she classes herself as having a disability - bad back is listed as a reason she left a previous job. What are your thoughts on this? Can I ask her at interview if she'll be able to manage getting up and down off the floor and helping pack away etc?

Personally, I would think you can absolutely ask her as that is what the job entails - but I'd also give ACAS a call and just make sure. I would also make sure that if she was the best candidate for your role I had her on a trial first, if someone says 'oh, it'll be fine' in interview without actually having done the job she may come unstuck when she realises how physically demanding it is
