mundia Posted January 20, 2017 Share Posted January 20, 2017 It's interesting reading, but I fear as I have always done, that any statutory assessment taking place at the start of reception could signal the end of an EYFS that includes reception. We could see a return to the reception year being 'tacked on' to key stage one as it once was and still is in some schools. I don't feel this would be a step forward. On the other hand of course, we could have a statutory assessment taking place before any of the children are of statutory school age, before some children are even in school, so could it ever be a statutory measure? The only baseline that was mostly Early Years friendly was Early Excellence, all the others were pretty much tablet or booklet based. How can we be back looking at baselines like this again? SmileyPR Posted February 24, 2017 Share Posted February 24, 2017 Without my knowledge, LS is trying to push the NFER Reception Baseline Assessment. I was told by the Y1 teacher that it would be good for my clas to be assessed by this by the end of the year. I said that we already have the EYFS profile. This morning I discovered that they are still pushing it without my consent. In their website it says it can be administered to children entering Y1. Is the purpose of this test to assess children at the beginning of Reception, at the end or when starting Y1? Also, we finish school the last week of June and half of my class only turns 5 after the 20 th of June... 1 even in August. I am based in an international school in Belgium . The thing is that we get children from many countries around the world and different curriculum backgrounds, so some are from Belgium itself or from Germany, Spain, etc where children don't start formal schooling (reading, writing and so on) until Year 1 when they are 6 turning 7... so there is a gap between these systems and ours. The thing is, if she wants to see where those children are she can do an entry "test" for them... not necessarily something like this for our EY groups.
