Guest Posted December 3, 2016 Share Posted December 3, 2016 Well we've had our ofsted inspection and it did go well we're in the middle of changing our planning to trying more in the moment planning and moving away from planning for the following week our ofsted inspector was so excited to see what we were trying to do and achieve that it gave us the confidence we needed to realise we are moving in the right direction for the benefit of the children she also told us we don't need the planning sheets we were using and could get rid of them so we are looking for ideas of how other settings record their in the moment planning Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Its great to hear in the moment planning is increasingly getting a good reception from inspectors! ... what sort of plan sheets were you using?...I've tried several - tweaking from anna ephgraves version so always including a record of the activity or provision (eg books) and the response - what was the impact of the adult...what teachable moments arose. We don't record everything...and to be honest sometimes it still feels as if we are recording unnecessarily... a lot is also recorded on individual obs sheets which also include the adult input ...but for now I feel this is necessary as the team is still getting used to the more open ended 'go with the flow' process and recognising all 'activities' even unplanned ones are valuable! Guest Posted December 4, 2016 Share Posted December 4, 2016 (edited) We haven't quite moved away from a planning sheet we've been using for several years now and we were just leaving it blank and filling in as the week went on which our inspector said we didn't need and just bite the bullet and get rid so we are in the process of working out how to record our in the moment planning, one way we are thinking of is just using a scrap book and adding on to it as and when but we have a staff meeting planned to discuss it and see what everyone else thinks. She didn't ask to see any planning we had done previous x We had the same response from our inspector - she told use not to bother writing everything down. We have now overcome this by just having a list of key children and each a resource/activity written next (these may overlap- so an activity may be carried out for more than one child) As a pack away setting we do have to have some kind of daily planning sheet so the staff setting up in the morning ensure the resources needed for that day are out. Guest Posted December 4, 2016 Share Posted December 4, 2016 It seems to be the way forward we didn't do any of our planned activities on the day and there was still lots of play and learning going on. We didn't get any recommendations with regards to the children's play learning and development.
