Shape space and measure books or ideas

I tell you what I saw on Pinterest the other day, which I thought, ooh yea maybe give that one a go. child ( a) was laying down on the floor and then using wooden bricks on their sides the outline of the child's body was followed - similar to when you draw around a child laying on the floor but using the bricks you can then help them up and they can see their outline, count how many bricks maybe, just look at the shape their body has made.

The Three bears is an obvious one and you've probably done this already ...

Other suggestions could be:

  • John Burningham 'Oi! get off our train' - this is really good for simple addition/subtraction and can you can use the toy trains to engage the less willing mathematicians
  • Kaye Umansky 'A chair for paper bear' this is good for using the language of size and shape as the baby bear tries to decide what sort of chair to have
