It's my sister-in-law's 30th birthday party tomorrow afternoon and then I am having a sleepover at my mum and dad's - on my niece's insistence, I don't usually as I live so close but she made me promise. Then on Sunday we are going on a trek! zigzag Posted May 26, 2017 Share Posted May 26, 2017 Thank crunchie it's Friday! Now have the luxury of two weeks off as we have half term then all the inset days the following week. Massive TDL for both home and work but not going to stress over either of them! Dertermined to get walking again as haven't been able to face it without my dog, but need to 'man' up and just do it. Have made a big step this afternoon as have done my front garden for the first time since losing him. He always used to sit and watch me, never left my side and people used to make a joke about it, so was quite a thing to do. But I did it (with a few tears) so can only get easier now. My TDL feels pretty epic too this weekend although I also have that nagging feeling I've forgotten something important! Today I am mostly going to be working and doing housework (it's too early in the term to let it go just yet!) but then tomorrow I'm hoping to do some sewing or maybe gardening if the weather is better than it is now! I'm also going to write a letter. I was chatting to the mum of a friend who is in New Zealand and learned that they do a 'Tuesday letter' - every Tuesday they write each other a note just with 'normal' news and post it. It reminded me of the letters and postcards my mum used to send every week while I was at university and how lovely it is to get something through the post that isn't advertising or an expected birthday card or card for some other seasonal celebration. So, I decided to have a go at sending a friendly note to someone once each week. He is the youngest and lives on the South Coast about 2 hours away. He decided that while he loves his phone, the art of writing a letter was disappearing and he wanted to do it. He writes to one or two of his friends and said he would like us to write as well - so now we do - just ordinary stuff. Cait Posted June 11, 2017 Share Posted June 11, 2017 My husband and I carried out most of our courtship by correspondence. He lived in Cumbria and I was in West Yorkshire. I sometimes managed two letters a day to him on quiet days at work. MMy Dad began hand writing to me every Sunday afternoon as soon as I married and moved away. I have every one of his letters and I know he kept all of mine, although they were only fortnightly replies, they contained all the minutiae of life. In the last decade of his life, once Parkinson's syndrome had got a hold, these were typed on his laptop and printed out. Still very much treasured items. On the day he died, he had just completed a letter to me and my sister steadied his hand whilst he signed it, not the usual 'Daddy' but the strangely formal 'J.D. Bennett'. When I was at university and very homesick my mum wrote me a letter every Tuesday and a postcard every Thursday. Mostly they are filled with normal day to day news, occasionally with a more poignant family event. I still have and treasure every one. My mum's biggest brother died a couple of years ago and she has been going through the oceans of paperwork (he was the eldest so had all the family business ledgers (a bakery!) that are 150 years old. It's amazing stuff. However, in all this she came across a letter that my great grandpa wrote to my great uncle while he was in France in WW1. It's just an ordinary letter, wishing him well, talking about the hop harvest etc and is lovely. Been a pretty good week at pre-school, lots of time spent outdoors which is always lovely :1b Not such a good week for my oldest son - he has managed to damage his hand and fingers whilst trying to prise apart two frozen burgers he has to go to East Grinsted hospital tomorrow for surgery - his index finger is currently completely numb....... We will be looking after his daughter/our granddaughter (2 yrs) tomorrow while his wife/our DIL drives him to the hospital Anyway - fingers crossed (ouch) they can work some magic for him........ It's been a hard week here....running on minimum staff all week (blinking GCSE requirements! now dropped but this year group has still had to go ahead!) One little one testing me (and his parents) to the limit. "shoes on" NO.....shoes on now ....NO......shoes on or no play......DONT CARE...GROWLS....I GOT ANGRY EYES...NOT GOING TO DO IT....etc etc etc ...blooming heck he's hard work, as is his grandmother. They definitely have an SEND but I can't work it out yet apparently Aunt has severe dyslexia but he's really testing me this week. Nothing particular - just feeling a bit worn down at the moment. I texted my dad as I left school and he was (in his words) 'just chilling' so I took him to the pub for tea and then a walk round the village and a sit in the garden watching the sun set and the baby rabbit come out to play. He has to go back to East Grinsted hospital on Tuesday - he has severed a nerve - they will open his hand in an attempt to locate the nerve - apparently this is the only solution - they have said that otherwise the nerve will 'embed' in the wrong place and will cause pain and. of course, he will not recover any feeling in is index finger........that is all a bit 'long story, cut short'....... sunnyday Posted June 23, 2017 Author Share Posted June 23, 2017 Okay - so where has the week gone? :blink: Some of my 'leaver group' seem to have caught the 'I'm not listening anymore' bug :lol: Son's operation has (hopefully) been successful, apparently he may not regain feeling in that finger for a year, however they found that the nerve wasn't completely severed (just 95% :wacko: ) so they have repaired, he has 10 stitches, they didn't cut as far into his hand as expected but they did cut further up the offending finger.........needless to say he has removed the dressing 'for a look', knew he would, so would I :rolleyes: :lol: :lol: :lol: he was sent home with a cocktail of painkillers with the instruction to keep taking them, do not let any pain start, he hasn't taken any at all today :blink: sure he knows what he is doing though....... Have a sizeable TDL - nothing new there then - need to get off here and get on with it really ::1a Youngest granddaughter (2 yrs) is staying overnight tomorrow - should be fun :1b Have a lovely weekend all :1b 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The not listening bug is very contagious Sunnyday as it seems to have travelled from Kent to Cornwall! Also a particularly challenging week for a behaviour issue that one of ours has. Just sat slumped on the couch now feeling like I have been run over by a steam train. I have purposely left all work at school, the TDL can wait!
