finleysmaid Posted June 18, 2016 Share Posted June 18, 2016 yes lots! Deferred entry spaces are usually for in year entry. so children may defer for a term or 2 depending on age. Delayed start as Narnia describes is up to the LEA's and school rules (it is not currently on offer in our borough!!) unless there is a huge amount of evidence and support from the send and schools team. Children do not have to start school until the term after their 5th birthday...but the recommendation is that they do at least one term in reception. Parents in our lea must accept the school place and then inform them they are deferring. Funding continues as normal but only for 15 hours not for full time school equivalent We continue to work on the childrens next steps as per the LO's . larnielass Posted June 19, 2016 Share Posted June 19, 2016 Watching this with interest. For the first time we will be in this situation. Child is very SEND and couldn't cope with reception. Family are pinning their hopes on specialist provision. While I am happy to keep child, we will not get ENF. (Rarer than Hens teeth in this area) "not exceptional enough". Amazing how a panel can decides this without ever meeting the child. Perhaps it should be mandatory for panels to meet these children or watch video footage before they make sweeping statements that can have long lasting repercussions on the family. (Rant over!) Funding continues as normal but only for 15 hours not for full time school equivalent I understand this, I really do, and some parents of children with Summer birthdays choose this, as do parents in the same position as your larnielass, who are hoping for a place in a school better able to meet their child's particular needs. However, from a school point of view, we have to keep a place open for deferring children until they decide to join us. If they are not on roll by our 'headcount day'in October then we get no money for them for the entire year, not even the 15 hours. I think this is something that needs discussing with your lea...the money is allocated to these children so a 'late entry' payment should be possible.... mundia Posted June 19, 2016 Share Posted June 19, 2016 You will find slightly different procedures in different LAS and again if the preferred school is an academy. So your first port of call should be your LA, then your parent should be in touch with their preferred school as well.
