Reptiles

I have received a flyer from a local company that is starting up visiting nurseries, children centres etc and taking bookings for parties. They have reptiles for children to handle. A member of staff recalls hearing (she thinks from Druscillas in East Sussex) that children under 5 should not handle reptiles. Do you know anything about this?

I have never heard this, in fact we often have visiting creatures in. As long as you risk assess and then make sure that every child thoroughly washed/disinfects their hands afterwards, I honestly don't see a problem. Have a look at this lot..Zoolab :

Have the critters in, the children will love it :)

( and i'm not endorsing zoo lab, just suggesting your staff have a look)........we also have visits from the little zoo, who are amazing!!

we regularly had visits.. luckily for us I knew some parents who kept them so would bring them in.. lots of good hand hygiene after, washing them and gels..

The company would not be able to operate if it was unsuitable... probably a rule for the location only.. makes it easier if they state it is not allowed.
