Mouseketeer Posted January 10, 2016 Share Posted January 10, 2016 It's hard when they don't have a real 'gap to narrow' isn't it, I have a sheet with who, how much, what buying and why, outcome, I have a few with S&L and a couple who love playing with Lego (but no real need) but I've been reading about 'Lego therapy' so am going to buy some new sets and include the cost of time, printing, laminating to make the cards that go with them ....it may take a long time lol I'm finding whilst I'm still thinking I need to spend it the next lot is due, I am now clubbing a few together and making a case for something the whole group can enjoy, thinking something large and garden next time. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have some children who would benefit from support with PSED and C&L. what sort of things have you used yours for? Does the money need to be spent each term or can two terms of money be used to buy a bigger resource? Mouse - Lego therapy sounds like an effect idea. mundia Posted January 11, 2016 Share Posted January 11, 2016 There are some really good forms you can use or adapt on the Early Education website. https://www.early-education.org.uk/framing-your-thinking-spending-your-eypp-funding They break down the possibilities into 4 which are Quality Improvement which would include CPD Subject specific eg literacy or numeracy Parent engagement?home learning environment Widening life experiences (or enrichment activities) If you don't have a specific gap to narrow that you can see, then is there something you can do which would support learning at home eg take home bags? Is there any messages from your local data patterns that tell you which areas need more focus (often this is writing but not always). Otherwise How about widening life experiences. I have found in the past that children from poorer backgrounds don't get the same life experiences as others may. Plus extending their life experiences also gives them something to talk about which also boosts their language too. This could be bringing someone into the setting (artist, musician, animals, scrap store etc) or going out on visits. (even simple ones such as library, park, museum, shops, post office, nature centre etc) Also worth looking at how you ensure and agree accuracy of your assessment eg do you cross moderate with other settings or local school? 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

This was discussed at the seminar I went to - ask yourself how much further ahead might this child be if they had the sorts of life experiences other non-disadvantaged children might have. We only have two and neither are low in any areas, the inspector wanted to look at invoices for resources etc. We concentrated on fine motor skills as we felt this was the area both children ( ) need support and she was happy with this. Pupil Premium is becoming a pain in the backside!! Very little money, often ( as people have pointed out on here ) for children not requiring intervention, causing more work for us AND they don't even trust us to use the money appropriately!! If settings have to show invoices for every penny how come schools can thow it in a pot! Our inspector asked if we had any EYPP, we said one this term, 4 last term that but the money too late to benefit them and that was that! Honestly- we're talking just on £100 here and that is for a child that certainly doesnt require any intervention. Rafa is correct, it is becoming such pain in the proverbial. mundia Posted February 16, 2016 Share Posted February 16, 2016 You can use your money for pretty much anything as long as you can show how it's been spent and difference it has made for the children's learning and development. at roughly £8 an hour over 38 weeks, you would be able to fund 1 hour a week for each child, not enough to recruit new staff if you only have one child but it could be used for an existing key person to do a specific piece of work, eg by improving your ratio at certain times. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
