Presents for the Children

 Share

Recommended Posts

We're having Santa visit our Christmas party. Just wondering if anyone else does this and if so, what presents do you give the children? Last year we just did a selection box and a child was really upset because it wasn't what was on his list.

I'd like to give them something from Pre-school, but Santa is booked now.

I did board books for the younger ones and activity books for the pre school last year, this year i have got books again and peppa pig activity sets for the older ones. Last year i got everything from Home Bargins, very cheap, less than a pound each. This time i got online from a company called Andersons, again it worked out about one pound per present.

Last year we pulled in a sleigh with a sack of presents in with a special scroll with a letter from Santa explaining that as this is his busiest time of year he had dropped the presents off earlier, he hopes that the children enjoy their gifts and that he will try to call in next year! This worked very, very well as in previous years we have had issues with a number of children really being quite frightened of Santa!

Each year we ask the parents to provide an inexpensive gift for their child which so far every parent has agreed to - we have a supply of books that we would wrap up if need be!

We have the real Father Christmas - don't think he has frightened anyone yet (touching wood here) - he takes the pressies one by one from his sack - they have all been named by his special Christmas Fairy  children go to get them - accompanied by a parent/carer if they are feeling shy......

I got some great books from 'The Works' this year they were 4 for £5.00......

Our parents supply a present named on wrapping paper and on the actual present. Recommended amount £5.00. The parents "smuggle" them in a couple of days before the party. We also ask to be made aware of any child who is afraid of FC and make sure they sit as far away as possible and have adult support. They are usually the ones who can't wait for their turn lol!

Depended on the budget.

One year we had Ikea finger puppets, at £4 for 10 a bargain and we split the pack , we gave 5 each.

Other years we gave books,

hand puppets (Baker Ross had a brilliant deal on those one year) ,

plastic mugs

pencils and pad of paper

chalk and chalk board ( scrounged them from a local small toy factory for free, they gave me enough for 3 settings gifts!)

Parents supply gift to a value of XXX

Sticker book , bubbles..

We even found some musical instruments on year that were idea, not sure how the parents felt about the drums etc.. but no one complained..

Over the year all staff used to let us know if they found something that could be suitable.. amazing what we found .

This year it's book but last year we did a plastic mug with our logo on (the same ones we have at snack) which was quite nice.

Hi diesel

Can I ask you where you get your mugs with your logos on please

Thanks in advance

Our bears are from schoolbears.co.uk

At the moment they are accepting orders for less than the minimum quantity stated on their website, and the turn around was really fast. I approved the design on Tuesday afternoon, and they arrived Friday!

Books for us...........this year it's Grumpy Badger's Christmas. I never ask the parents to buy gifts, for several reasons: one, because many can't afford it and two, because no matter how often we might suggest a maximum spend, there will always be the 'show off' parent who just 'couldn't resist' spending several times the amount. So, everyone gets the same......same spend, same preset.

We do try to vary what we give - we have done the mugs thing which was well received and as we give books to our leavers we have tried to do a different xmas gift - last year Lidl had lovely wooden puzzle toys (reasonably priced too) and this year I cleared out Sainsburys when they had their deal on - I will confess that I get some weird looks as I load up my shopping trolley with 50+ of the same toy - it sort of sparks a bit of a panic buying situation with others who think that they are missing out on a good thing - can also be really funny when someone interrupts as you count them into the trolley wondering why you need X number of something - I get a bit paranoid that I won't count in enough! - this year we got the stacking blocks (like Jenga but trade descriptions etc it can't be called that) - if it isn't played like the game at least the children can build with them!

Thought our order of Christmas story books for presents had arrived this morning until I opened the package they have put in one book about The complete Guide to Drones !

When I rang to say this had happened the response was to give that book to charity or a local school and they would send out my order as a priority so should be with us by Monday as she felt that Black Friday would be so manic.

The book is £14.99 as the published price, don't know how much they sell it for on Book People - wonder how many other orders they just "throw away" - whilst their packs are inexpensive - seems wrong somehow.
