i really need help - i have / am updating our policies using psla but am really confused on 10.10 - information sharing which states -

we ensure our parents

receive information about our information policy when starting their child at setting and sign to say

they understand circumstances in which information may be shared without their consent.this will only be when it is a matter of safeguarding a child

have information about our safeguarding children and child protection policy

have information about other circumstances when information will be shared with external agencies, for example, with regard to any sen the child may have or transition to school.

so do i need to give each parent a copy of certain policies (expensive !!) - if so which one/s ?

has anyone updated using psla that can help please?

soooooooo many changes to these policies too !!

I don't give mine a copy of policies (christ they don't read the prospectus let alone policies if i did), just point them in the direction of where they can find them in hard copy and online, I put on newsletters which have been updated, someone had the idea of telling them before hand so they can have input before changing them, which i thought was a good idea, we have to give a 'privacy notice' as part of our funding agreement when children are eligible for funding, I add it to prospectus so i know everyone has had one.

We are a member of PSLA but don;t use their policies they are just soooooo long winded.

We have hard copy in cloakroom -no-one reads. Put reminders of main ones in newsletters -no-one reads. Will put onto website when up and running - other settings will read (cos that's what I do when I need to update anything) committee members and staff have on memory sticks -no-one reads. Am I painting a picture here? ???? Sorry - bit negative.

We do use PSLA policies as starting point, but change and take bits out to meet our needs. We also find some a bit wordy.

I've been considering a 'welcome pack' and so have been making a policies leaflet for parents. There are just TOO many. I have scaled them down to the key ones and still it's 12 pages long. Wondering just how many trees I am wasting?

Previously, i have pointed parents in the direction of the policies and on their application form I have a box saying they have 'read and agree to adhere to them' and then they sign it. In 11 years, all parents have signed it, only one has sat and looked at the folder!

I have I think it's 4 in main welcome pack which I print in booklet format, the welcome pack has password for parent area on to web site where all policies for users are. I have a hard copy in a file that's on signing in desk. I have a box on reg form that says they understand we have a safeguarding policy and we will act within this at all times, along with 'what parents should know when using our setting' safeguarding leaflet.

Staff have policies e-mailed and then I pick one each half term that they have a short questionair on at start of staff mtg if they get less than 80% correct they have to re take quiz within A few days, which feeds into their supervisions.

Printing booklet format is a little obsession of mine saves so much paper :)

Have almost finished reviewing mine. Am on the home stretch. Safeguarding is the last one to be reviewed and have not previously written a Key Person policy so I am about to start this.

I am going to scare you all with a bit of positivity here. With each policy I have carefully read and checked our practice. For example in my Safeguarding policy I say that our certificates are filled so I tottered off to the filing cabinet and guess what? much to my surprise and amazement they are where I said they were!!!!!

So feeling a little pleased that this review has been worth while.

I know my parents wont read them, I hope some of my staff team will atleast know they exist. But it has given me time to reflect on our practice.
