At the moment we use this sheet to highlight them. But I feel we need to do more as it don't have positive relationships or enabling environments. lashes2508 Posted May 23, 2015 Share Posted May 23, 2015 Why do you need to do more , it's up to you to provide the enabling environment and therefore this would help you to see how children access and use it and as for positive relationships , this is part of your observation and provision. Nannyrosie Posted May 23, 2015 Author Share Posted May 23, 2015 Just that we use that within our learning journeys whe doing observations, but the ofsted inspected made a comment that we could possible make more use of the Characteristics of learning a bit more within our learning journeys to show where the child is. Do you feel that your current system needs changing? No I don't feel it need changing. I think we do above the normal already. Maybe we could add the CoEL to some of the photo shots. Characteristics-Of-Effective-Learning-Record-Sheet.pdf Wouldn't usually use something lke this but we have a moderation visit this year and so we're using it as a memory jogger in case anyone's mind goes blank at the crucial moment! Each CoEL had a different colour (red, yellow and blue) and if the observation covered that CoEL, it had the corresponding sticky dot on it. BroadOaks Posted June 8, 2015 Share Posted June 8, 2015 I don't think it's just a matter of having to find a CoEL and tick it off for each obvs.. Maybe Ofsted actually want settings to show how best a child learns, and the actual point of the CoEL in the first place. So in future activities once we have established that Paul needs encouraging to "try again" in order to maximise the outcome from an activity, was this then put into practice and also did you document this in Paul's Journal?
