Toy cull!

Recommended Posts

Tuesday we sorted the role play cupboard , 4 high chairs , 2 large prams , 16 dolls and enough plastic plates to open a canteen ! Enough Dressing up for a west end performance !

Everything washed and broken items disposed of.

Reduced to 2 high chairs, 1 fold away buggy ( going to purchase a couple more) and 8 babies . Dresses reduced greatly and sorted , all toys cleaned , loaded car and did bootsales yesterday and raised £70 , other cupboard still to sort .

Plastic zip bags arrived to day so puzzles next but have been busy sanding , priming and re painting puzzle cupboard.

Sanded old wooden rocker , primed and sprayed with chalk board paint so the children can turn it into whatever they want.

Do you hire yourself out? I could do with you!! :1b

Books ... feel like we have hundreds mostly in storage boxes in the shed and it's a pain to sort through to change for the book corner; any handy hints??

Ooh a bus mans holiday Thumper rabbit ,sounds good !

When I sorted our books last holidays , I got rid of any damaged ones, duplicates with the exception of real favs.

I then organised into Multi cultural , fact , fiction, hard back and paperback. I also looked at the wording ,if I felt too much text then they all went to charity shop.

Fortunately I found an alcove in one of the Village hall rooms , shelved with wood donated and now books are easy to access and change to book cases that we get out everyday.

I am a natural hoarder and hate to see waste or items thrown out , everything has a use but I do have to be realistic , we had so many books donated etc and too many meant that the children and staff were not really getting an opportunity to have something different or broaden their horizons .

Puzzles sorted , boxes removed , bagged into zip bags and put in canvas boxes - number puzzles, peg puzzles, etc , agIn had to say goodbye to a few

Are you meant to be on holiday? xD

Is there anything left to tidy at your place, I'm feeling VERY envious!

I'm after inspiration for good storing resources and setting up a PACKAWAY environment - does anyone know of anything??

Yes on holiday ! We are packaway too thumper , OH came over today to help with a few jobs , we have 2 cupboards situated at different areas , one is the role play cupboard full of dressing up so we reused some curtain poles brackets and curtain wire so we can hang clothes on and then select an assortment each day which means space made on shelves can house other things.

Our front cupboard had other resources , yet to be culled!

We brought open cupboards from ikea and added castors so we can roll in and out each day , the cupboards have material boxes and we change them around , they also act as dividers for areas in hall.

We have an art trolley with drawers again on castors which houses writing materials etc and children's art books.

We make paint up in queasy bottles ( old ketchup ones ) and have ordered some non shatterproof sugar dispensers forowder paint so the children can mix and pour own paint.

Our tables are housed on a trolley as are our chairs , the key ingredient is label and keep on at everyone to make sure items are put back correctly to make life easier the next day !

one of my favourite sites...we are just about to order a new marble tree ...the last one has just given up after many years,,,,,60 children a day using it!

http://www.myriadonline.co.uk/products.php?id=200&name=Rainbow%20Cascade%20Marble%20Run

Our marble tree came yesterday in time for today , it's fabulous , so mesmerising , the sounds it creates are beautiful and varied and I can see this being a worthwhile investment , one of our 2 yrs old played with it for such a long time , he became quite appalled that a member of staff wanted to join in , thank you for the recommendation

I have been looking around the internet for non shatterproof sugar dispensers - where did you get yours?

Also acquired wire shopping baskets for outside sand / water resources , plastic cup hooks brought and this will be our new storage outside and hopefully help with tidying up and ticking box with Ofsted as there will be both printed , makaton and photo labels to go with them.

Idea borrowed from Ann Ephgraves , simple yet so common sense

They were , the white ones are stationary and we have 3 of the others we added castors to and with a bit of jiggling fit them in with 2 book trolleys and the cupboard is 3 ft wide .

We have just washed all of the stuff and yes they were not too bad but still some people don't put things away properly !
