When what to notify ofsted! Help

Recommended Posts

I take the view that if in doubt I notify Ofsted. This week we had an outbreak of scarlet fever so I notified them, and local health protection team. All good.

However woman from Ofsted said that we had a duty to inform them of any illness affecting 3 children (including chicken pox, D & V etc). I knew you have to notify notifiable illnesses and food poisoning but not for everything else, does anyone do this?

Now here's the thing I have trailed the websites/documents to find this requirement and can find anything, not even the reference to notifying notifiable illnesses!

Can someone point me in the right direction?

I checked RIDDOR - it doesn't cover scarlet fever, more occupational type diseases/illnesses. We made a notification to the local health protection team, via public health England.

Really my question relates to Ofsted requirements and when they expect to be notified. Surely everyone else isn't calling Ofsted to advise of 3 or more chicken pox etc?

Thanks Rafa and tish501,

That's what I thought, I think I will email them for clarification. I really annoys me when they give out incorrect information, or omit to tell us requirements.

We are well overdue an Ofsted inspection (5yrs 9mths!) so I am particularly twitchy!
