Good Level Development-help?

Hi,

I'm a bit concerned about GLD. I think it's worked out by a child achieving ELG's in PSED, CL, PD, L and M. What about those children that achieve in 11 out of 12 of these ELG's? Have they not achieved a good level of development? I'm a bit concerned as we are a tiny school and only had 7 in the foundation stage and so any shortcoming really shows up in our results! Thanks for your help

I loathe the GLD so much. Imagine this conversation with a year 6

" congratulations you got a level 6 in spag, reading and writing! Unfortunately so are a level 3 in maths so none of your scores dont count"

Bah. As if!!!

That is sort of how the floor standard currently works though for the Yr 6 outcomes...

"2014

Floor standards will change in 2014 so that schools will be seen as underperforming if:

  • fewer than 65% of pupils at the end of key stage 2 (KS2) achieved level 4 or above in Reading, Writing and maths and
  • below the average percentage of pupils at the end of KS2 made expected progress in Reading (compared with the 2014 national median) and
  • below the average percentage of pupils at the end of KS2 made expected progress in Writing (compared with the 2014 national median) and
  • below the average percentage of pupils at the end of KS2 made expected progress in maths (compared with the 2014 national median)

Results of English grammar, punctuation and spelling tests will not be taken into account in floor standards"
