Sharing references at interview

Please could you tell me what you think about a head teacher sharing the details of a reference I had written with a candidate she was interviewing for a TA post? I have really upset a member of my staff who is leaving by grading her 'satisfactory' for one aspect out of 15. All the rest were 'good' or 'excellent'. I was taken aback when she approached me about it as I did not think it was normal practice to reveal details of a reference with an interviewee.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

when we ask for references there is a line that says something like 'this may be shared with the applicant' - not sure that we ever have done so, but I guess one thing out of line with a general picture would be something I would want to probe a little, albeit in general terms.

I don't know if this is usual practice, but I have seen something similar on some reference forms I've filled in too.

Having said that I do usually give people a copy of what I have written.
