Interview and observation

Hello

I think I just need a little advise and reassurance!.

I am having an interview and observation for the deputy's post at the pre-school in which I work next week. I have to do an activity and be observed for 5-10 mins for a letters and sounds phase one activity for a group of 4-5 children whose age range is between 3-4.(It will be a selection of both top and middle groups)

I was thinking of doing aspect 5 with an activity based around Mrs Brownings box/bag with animals and singing the song eg Mrs browning had a bag ei ei o. I will make the sound for an animal and then ask the children to see if they can identify the animal and listen for the initial sounds for the animals in the bag.

I have never had to do an observation, I was wondering would it be a good idea to do plan and outcome for the activity to give to the interviewer who is interviewing me, eg My headteacher, Manager and The chair of governors.

I have over 5 years experience and a foundation degree. I do these types of activities on a daily basis. Any advise would be very much appreciated.

Hi Susan

Like lashes said be yourself and I agree it would be a good idea to write up an activity plan, it may also be beneficial to keep in the back of your mind what you would do if the activity didn't go as you had planned or the children didn't cooperate just in case so you are prepared for every eventuality. I love that activity ;-) good luck x

Hi

Thank you to both of you. Yes the children have been doing phase 1 since September. I know the children very well, although I do not know which children I will have for the activity.

Yes that is a good idea to think about what happens if......?

I have my interview straight after the observation, so am presuming they may ask me about my activity. Its the others questions I am thinking about eg what will they ask etc

Thank you

Possibly .....safeguarding, health and safety, team work, time management, training, partnership with parents, management skills, SEND, extending activities for more able children, EYFS .... and sometimes you may be asked if you have any questions so it's a good idea to have one just in case ;-)

I asked the above but also equal opps and what did it look like to them, tailoring activities for mixed age range, can't think what else off top of my head but will try and have a look tomorrow.

Good luck. Activity sounds engaging and your knowledge of where the children are generally will stand you in good stead!
