The family is ... Mum, Dad, Bramble, Thorn, Nanna and Grandad - each member is pictured doing 5 different things - eating, drinking, sleeping, dancing and reading. Not sure if that is what you wanted.

Are you doing BLAST 1 or 2? BLAST 2 is relatively new and is being used in our reception classes; in nursery I use BLAST 1.

I have some assessment/recording sheets that I devised if they would be of any use to you.

Yes and no - the first 3 weeks are good; the activities interest the children - especially the listening activities using the CD sounds. After that the children get fidgety and have to wait too long for their turn, even if I have only 4 in the group; because of this I have made changes and do not follow the activities exactly as the programme suggests. With regard to its success: for some children it has a real impact in terms of sharing and turntaking or confidence, for others it works well in both these areas - but only during the BLAST activity (they fail to use their learning e.g. turntaking, in a wider context) and for others there is no impact at all. It can, of course, be used as an assessment tool for understanding concepts - but I often find that I already knew that e.g. X could not match/recognise colours or can hear the onset in words (gate/date) - and of course some of the picture cards are rather obscure (save/shave or yawn/lawn). On the whole, the children love it for the first 3 weeks, but are not so keen to leave their play after that.
