Stupid question?

I've got Ba(Hons) in Primary Education with qts and that was fine even before I did my eyps. I have got a level three too but when i checked on the qualifications checker and with ofsted my degree is full and relevant. I think it just has to be in early years or key stage one so if there degree was purely ks2 it wouldn't be ok! Hope that makes sense!!

I suspect the Level 3 would go quite deeply into age and stage the children are at and Policies and why we have them, how to write them, - I don't know - I took mine a very long time ago and the Level 3 my last member of staff did, didn't require too much of that! In order to "Run" a pre-school there is a lot of background knowledge one would need, but to Deputise or run a session she would be more than amply qualified I should think.

I think the issue here is that she has a foundation degree and a level 2 qual. The real question is whether her foundation degree which is a level 5 is deemed full and relevant ie she meets your level 3 requirement for a manager.

I can't answer that!

This was something that 'miffed' immensely annoyed our last Ofsted inspector - she kept saying that our level 5 couldn't possibly be a level 5, because her own qualification - a teaching degree didn't even cover her to be a level 3 within a setting.

I wasn't getting into an argument with her - but left her with the folder with all the qualification checker info printed off for each staff member!

I think as woodland says it all depends on the age range of teaching degree.

I had social worker who had many years experience in childcare and with children in her job as a social worker and a level 2 childcare qualification so phoned Ofsted and they said they could not see a problem but they could not make the decision about whether she could be counted as level 3 but that I had to get the OK from my LA. LA were baffled as to why I had been told that and could not give an answer. I kept her as a level 2!

Right am having a complete melt down here! I have obviously checked my qualification before and it was relevant. Have just checked on this list and it's not there. I have a BTEC National diploma in nursery nursing achieved in 1992. Someone please me its OK. I do have a copy of the checker I used at work but need some reassurance NOW!!!!

Dont panic zigzag!! It is still relevant! There is a search option in the main area where the levels list is. If you search 'BTEC' all the BTEC qualifications come up - yours still has the green tick, although some of BTEC's do not.

Same here woodlands , my deputy is working towards level 3 but has no previous qualifications , Ofsted agreed this is fine as long as another level 3 present but it is confusing because when you read the welfare requirements it's reads different .

I am having issues regarding the 50% of qualified staff , we fell below when a member of staff had to leave ( horrible experience) therefore I notified Ofsted which triggered inspection which resulted in requires improvement because of this.

We employed another level 3 but as she only works 2 days And has brought our staff to 7 it is causing all sorts of issues with LA , it does specify 50% at each session and Ofsted agreed this was ok , all unqualified staff bar one are working towards level 3 and one is an apprentice doing level 2 , aargh! If we employ another qualified staff we would have to lose someone possibly .

I've always taken it that its the staff present at any one time but that may be my interpretation! We have someone who is in there final year teaching degree but they are still classed as unqualified too which seems silly as they have completed all the level 5 modules and work. It makes a difference to whether its 50% of all staff once you've taken the level 3 out (how I think it reads) or 50% including level three, confusing!!!

but I was wrong!! Unless they have changed the wording as 2014 reads

In group settings, the manager must hold at least a full and relevant16 level 317 qualification and at least half of all other staff must hold at least a full and relevant level 2 qualification. The manager should have at least two years’ experience of working in an early years setting, or have at least two years’ other suitable experience. The provider must ensure there is a named deputy who, in their judgement, is capable and qualified to take charge in the manager’s absence

 

Nothing about half of staff at that session. Surely it should read that though.otherwise if half your staff aren't suitably qualified and you could have them in and just a L3 manager? (providing you are still in ratio)
