ABC objective led planning

Recommended Posts

Hello all

Having just moved from 6years teaching in reception to take up eyfs leader role I am keen to consider heading towards Alistairs objective led planning route. Just wondered whst others are doing out there? Is anyone already working on this? Day to day logistics? Thanks

I was lucky enough to go to one of Alistairs conferences in the summer, and was really inspired by his objective led planning! I trialled it last term and will definitely be using this year. The way I did it was that each week I focused on 2 specific areas of learning, often one Literacy and one Maths, but not necessarily. So for example I might have decided that the class needed to work on shape. I divide the children into 3 or 4 groups depending on where they are ( eg one group working on naming and describing 3d shapes, one group working on describing 2D shapes, one group working on naming 2D shapes). I then ensure that my continuous provision will give children opportunities to work on these skills, then during child initiated learning I focus on developing these skills with the children and keep a record of the children I work with and their learning. During the same week my TA works on another area in the same way. Throughout the week we try to make sure we work with all the children, during their child initiated learning. This doesn't mean we only focus on our area in our observations and interactions, but it is at the forefront of our minds. I only used it for a few weeks, but I saw massive progress in my class as it really sharpened up my formative assessment. Hope this makes sense, sorry to ramble!
