Can I tell a parent 'mornings only' is best

Hi. I have a child in my reception class who has behavioural issues and soils themselves every day (leaks out on to the carpet!) . Am I okay to explain to the parent that at the moment said child is not coping in reception and would benift from mornings only? The effect it is having on the 28 others is terrible - we are unable to fully run activities or even read a story. My TA is spending no time with the remaining children. I feel that mornings only would be a far better experience for the child.

Not sure, but I have (preschool) Mum wasn't happy- but at the end if the day I pointed out it was the child needs that were most important. We made a plan to build up to longer days.

Just realised you are 'school' so I suppose it could be totally different from you.

If your child has not yet had his 5th birthday then yes you can. Statutory education is the term after the fifth birthday.

However, I would suggest that you dont have this conversation in front of the other parents and that you have your HT or another ST member with you (SenCo maybe?).

Should there be a need to assess needs for further support, you will need to have this carefully recorded. Make it about the child's needs.

If the child was previously at pre school, how was the situation managed there?
