me again!!

I have lots of torches and a mental block!! any ideas for investigating light and dark ( science focus) would appreciated, we have a bears cave so we could look at objects in the dark....any other inspirational ideas would be welcome at this late hour!!!!!!

How about making a simple shadow puppet box, using a large cardboard box and grese proof paper, the children could use their hands or card to make simple puppets and tell stories.

If you have an overhead projector, try using toys on it to create shadows or cellophane, what happens- different ways of exploring light.

what happens if they put coloured cellophane over the ends of the torch?

I have done this before with reception and they have enjoyed it.

Hope this helps

there is a lovely story about day and night called 'Night Monkey, Day Monkey', which is really good to introduce ideas, not really about light sources, but could possibly link in somewhere

Hi Charlotte -
There are a couple of previous conversations on the subject you might find useful:

here

and

here

Hope they help! :)

also teachers tv have just had a science week, they showed a ks1 science activity about light and dark, which could be adapted

you may find it repeated, or if not it will probably be on the website
