We used "We're going on a bear hunt" as a model one year with yr1 and wrote our own stories " we're going on an alien hunt" but it took several weeks to embed the first story. "Whatever next" is also a great story and the "Aliens in Underpants" trio. Simple counting of rockets, planets etc and groupings depending on your age group and focus.
