Was wondering if anyone had had any thoughts about how to mark this event? We are going to plant the poppies but I was thinking of doing something else, but not sure what. Obviously dont want to "celebrate" war!!!! Any good ideas?

Think that is a tricky question as we have 4 years to commemorate different events from WW1, we are not planning anything other than the usual rememberance sunday stuff that we do every year.

whilst i have been very interested in WW1 for many years in different ways, I think commemorating something which started rather than ended is a little odd, I 'd far rather commemorate the end of the war personally.

I think the poppies are the best way.

how about here

what about picture of then and now for comparisons (cars/clothes/toys etc)

plant an allotment?

grow your own cook your own......build a bunker??????

BTW be careful with the poppies i think they are on the not recommended list for ofsted.

Thank you Finleysmaid. Love the bunker idea! I have bought some Royal British Legion poppy seeds today from B and Q. We have invited our local old people's home to come and have tea and cake with us one day in July and a friend is going to play some songs on her accordion. Love the old and new pictures idea. Brilliant!

Didn't know Ofsted had a 'not recommended' list!

Oh well. Too late. Planted my seeds today. Maybe ofsted should have contacted the royal British legion before they sent poppy seeds to all schools in the country!!!! Ha ha. Thinking of making a little memorial garden in one of my flower beds.
