zigzag Posted April 16, 2014 Share Posted April 16, 2014 So, I arrive at the big 40 next week, now birthdays have never bothered me before, but I am freaking out about this one!! I was just wondering if I met my younger self, what piece of advice would I give? Travel and see the world. I got very close to travelling around Canada in my late teens, but on the day we were going to book tickets my travelling companion got a late acceptance at university. Two months later I met my husband, which has led to two wonderful children. (They say things happen for a reason.) Do not worry so much about what other people think of you and the things you do. Feel that I am starting to worry less what people think of me and am starting to be able to stand up for myself now. (Shame it's taken 40 years) Stay slim!! Froglet Posted April 17, 2014 Share Posted April 17, 2014 Have a very happy birthday! Are you doing anything different to mark the day? Me turning 40 was a bigger deal for other people than for me. I vividly remember hating being 28 although I have no idea why! As for advice to my younger self - I'm not sure I'm any further on. The same things still worry and upset me and I don't listen to my own (very sensible) advice now! Had a lovely bunch of wild flowers from one of the children and they had also decorated a big banner for me. My team bought me a beautiful necklace which was so kind of them. Off for a birthday meal now. And tomorrow is another day!! So not much different from being 39 really. I cant possibly be THAT old! It will be my last birthday though. I'll be 47 afterwards for as many years I can get away with it until my mind catches up. My life began at 40 - I gave up the job I hated and became a childminder and eventually owning my own nursery. 50 this year - what major changes will I make for the next decade? I wonder?
