Hi,

I need help with our medium term plans, we do ours monthly and ussualy have one thing to work on eg sharing and plan different activities to help the child every week.

Im not sure if there should be a few different things on the medium term plan, and then for the individual weekly one it should be more in depth?

if anyone has any drafts they are willing to share with me, i would be very grateful as i am really stuck on what is expected.

Thank you

We don't do medium term plans for the children anymore. Our medium term plan is really our development/quality improvement plan. We do think loosely about any celebrations, festivals, seasons etc that we may want to cover.

Guest youngrisers

spent tonight sitting in front of screen thinking what do we cover over the summer terms. looked back and saw that most of the time we plan as the children think up new ideas so then put this down thinking farm, growing seeds and crops, stories related to growing things and other adventures concerning animals. seems that children like all things to do with outside

Have to say, we have been contemplating changing our planning system that we currently use recently.

At the moment we plan weekly and very loosely, which should enable the keypersons to tap into each child's interest and learning style. However on paper it is very fuzzy in terms of learning intentions and a pedagogy approach.

So we are looking to design our own system that links Continuous provision, DM, Child-led, Adult-led, SL, Characteristics of effective learning into a workable document for us.

We also hope to have Tapestry up and running by September 2014.

Wish me luck.

We mainly only have a weekly system nowadays but do the letters and sounds and those sort of activities as a half termly plan

Phew, glad to hear your planning is similar Cait :D plus haven't you not long had your inspection?

How to you go about the Letters & Sounds planning?

I don't have planning for this but we do actually do it! I do feel L&S planning would probably actually be worthwhile, do you have a proforma you would be willing to share?

No medium plan, haven't for years, waste of paper.

Weekly continuous provision, weekly individual plans from key person and long term plan which reads more like a yearly planner of things to do ie supervision, 121, fire drill policy update etc.

our medium planning allows us to add focus enhancements on one area/aspect each week on a rolling programme as well as a letters and sounds programme. Sometimes we add things for particular times of the year such as for easter at present we have added religious storybooks to the library, chicks/bunny stuff to craft area, hot cross buns for cookery club and a selection of eggs (marble/wood/ceramic) for counting and sorting
