planning for own key children

Hi,

I have been advised to have all staff in our toddler room plan for their own key children.

We will still be doing an overall provision plan but each member of staff will use their medium term planning to do a weekly plan on helping the childrens next steps and interests.

Has anyone got some kind of temlate that i could have a look at? All i can seem to find are templates best fit for preschool and in way to much detail.

Thank you!

All of my team plan for their family group of key children....mixed ages too. I find this works best as just like the children, the team have different learning styles and ways they can manage to cope with this task. It has been a revelation that they have all come up with their own formats and how effective these are.

As manager, I can monitor how effective the team are with their children on Tapestry as I can see how much progress they are making as individuals and as a key group. We discuss their planning and assessment methods at supervision meetings to make sure they are coping and meeting their targets and they ask for support if they need it.

My advice would be to let your staff develop their own methods. As long as they can show Ofsted how they work and children are working towards next steps/making progress.....cross referenced with activities etc...

Each key person has really grown in confidence as a result.....progress all round!

Our key workers fill in a sheet (individual learning Plan) which is a childs next steps, about characteristics and a part for how parents can support their child's learning at home by keyworkers adding in ideas of what parents can do to suport their child's next steps - this is copied and goes home. From this each key worker fills in a table which heads child, activity required, what area or when, expected learning outcome, idea if needed of how to set up/provide in relation to characteriscts and then finally a colum which is date planned for. Staff try to link their key children together so 3 of their KW children may require singing favourite songs so this helps reduce work by not duplicating.

These sheets then feed into medium term planning as we can assess are there others from other KW groups that need the same again therefore reducing duplication. Each activity/group idea/outing etc etc is planned for the coming half term the week that it is planned for is logged onto the key worker sheet with the mondays date (this provides a tracking system for instance if someone said whats his next step? you can look at KW sheet see week it was planned for, access that weeks planning if needed but mosre importantly that is the rough dates of observations that you will look for to find one that covers what happened in relation to his next step therefore providing a full cycle)

hope that makes sense  ha ha

Just trying to make things as basic and simple as possible so that folk fill them in. I find if it gets more than this it takes up too much time and it doesn't get done properly
