finleysmaid Posted January 8, 2014 Share Posted January 8, 2014 imo children of this age need to experience things first hand so take them out on a walk and talk about the dangers, discuss where good places to cross are, talk to a crossing patrol officer or a community warden. But I agree with finleysmaid - keep it real and I would also add stay away from colouring pictures and dot-to-dots! :1b If you're able to do as finleysmaid suggests and go for a 'road safety walk', then maybe you could set up some kind of outdoor role play - zebra crossing, lollipop person, road signs, police officer etc. You could then take it in all sorts of directions depending on what the children do, but you could easily introduce lots of mark-making, counting, talking about rules, talking about occupations and roles etc. etc. Have fun!
