Reducing the cost of printing photographs

Good morning,

 

We regularly print out loads of photographs using our printer and replacing ink cartridges is becoming costly. Any ideas of alternative ways to have the photos printed?

This might not be the solution depending on what your photos are for, but if they are for Learning Journeys, have a look at using Tapestry. Our printing costs have reduced as we are no longer printing any photos for Learning Journeys and with more than 100 children at our nursery, that's a lot of photos!

we were doing the same - cheaper alternative is to get cartridges refilled rather than buy new but we also have a book where we list when photo taken and why and then did them termly at Asda as so much cheaper - when we sort out internet access we are going to use tapestry as saving on printing costs will be just one of the bonuses.

Sounds like using Tapestry could actually end up being paid for by what you save on printing costs..

 

we used to reduce the picture size and resolution to the lowest for a snapshot picture.. then print on draft or fast print .. I usually got about 12 on an A4 sheet... and used A4 stickers to print them on.. gave an acceptable small snap of what we wanted to show...

 

and bought the cartridges with the most ink in them each time..check how much in each one.. they end up lasting a lot longer .

Now we are going to use Tapestry but before that we ended up printing photos in black and white on an ordinary printer because it was enormously cheaper and we could just print every photo we took. So, not such good quality but many many more photos in LJs which made them lovely.

I only print ours out on 'contact size' photo sheet (Picasso) think it's about 40 pics to a sheet, small but really clear for lj's, set an album for each kw which makes it easier to, do print slightly bigger ones if for a specific ob,

A4 labels... look for the ones that say.. one per page... ..a box of 100 lasted us ages..

Do you use an inkjet or a laser jet printer? A laser jet will be cheaper in the long run as the ink usage is more economical than an inkjet. It does just mean a little outlay at the beginning as laser jet printers tend to be a little more pricey.
