Young Rea had a wizard wheeze that we needed a forum area for discussing fundraising ideas, and to keep track of good ideas in the past. I'll move some older topics in here over the next few days, and hope you'll find it useful! :1b

Okay just to start us off. These are some of our successful fundraisers. Sponsored bowling with our own skittles and bowls, last year raised £800.00. Funday including BBQ, bouncy castle, face painting, tattoos, art and crafts, cake stall, raffle, decorate a biscuit, trike track, marble game,outside stalls, adopt a soft toy, bag tombola, chocolate fountain, raised £1,2000 last year. Bingo night £500.00, quiz night, £300.00, funmats, sale of photos, raffles at each concert three per year approx £200.00 each time. Have fun everyone.

Are the prizes donated or bought? Any good businesses we could approach for donations?

I know Sainsburys Homebase and Argos allow their staff two paid days a year when they can help with a project. Homebase are providing all the manpower and resources to clear and then plant a garden for us. They have money set aside for projects like ours.

No, one of our dad's is an area manager and at the AGM he offered his services (Homebase and Argos are under the same head company apparently ) At first he offered get us raffle prizes and suggested an Xbox or Wii. We were stunned but he said they have a pot of money for charities and good causes. He then heard about our garden plans and offered all the stuff for that instead. He bought a designer round to measure and produce some plans, we've chosen one so now they have gone away to draw it up properly.

It wouldnt hurt to write to them, I'm drafting a letter tonight to send to loads of other companies too.

Our Accountant told us to approach Barclays and Lloydstsb too because they also have a pot of money for various causes.

Think i have said this before but Sainsburys no longer own Homebase.. they are owned by Home retail group, same as Argos .. they were originally sold in 2000 and became sister to Argos in 2002..

 

just wanted to clear that up...

Hi Rea i have posted a reply twice off my Iphone and it hasn't sent, not sure what has happened there. Well third time lucky. We normally get the local Yellow Pages and look through picking out as many as possible to send a letterheaded request for donations too.We generally do this at the beginning of the year.

This could be anything from your larger businesses, department stores, garden centres, hair/beauty salons, leisure centres,nearest theme parks, sea-life centre, cinemas, bowling alleys, restaurants,supermarkets, zoos, council run farms, golf clubs,spa days,hotels, gyms.

Just go for it if mailing costs allow, you may get lucky.

As a suggestion, remember to put on your letter that any donations gratefully received will be acknowledged on the day.

I have used the "Rag Bag" scheme. We collected all types of things for recycling - clothing, bedlinen, curtains, shoes, belts, etc. The company supply big bags for you to put everything in, smaller bags for parents to put items in, posters etc. and you just phone them to ask them to collect the full bags. The problem could be storing the bags until you have enough for them to collect. I think 5 bags are the minimum - I waited until I had 8 bags(the bags are huge and fairly heavy). I kept them in the garage until they were collected - for a while they were in the dining room!!!

Bags for Schools is similar to that - we either send out bags that they provide to parents, or have done a jumble sale and filled the the left overs in the bags. A company then comes and takes them away where they are weighed (good tip put shoes as they are allowed in each bag to weigh them down) and a cheque sent later

 

We just did a sponsored spin which raised good money with good relations from the local sports centre giving us a spin room for free.

 

A race night is always fun and pulls in the funds, but you cant beat a sponsored welly thrown - very very low little effort but great response in the autumn

just to clarify..... do you mean Bag2school? www.bag2school.com very easy - and money for doing very little! we do this twice a year and raise over £100 each go..

A couple of years ago we introduced a pet to pre-school.... his name was Percy and was very hungry!!! The children loved bringing in their coins to feed him (he was a money box of course) and we would raise about £20 a term - fantastic at a time where £20 meant an awful lot to us so we could buy something specific and tell the parents and children it was from Percy. Parents would often ask for their change to go in Percy when they bought uniforms, etc.

 

Not big fundraising but every little helps!!

we did bags2schools and did really well, advertised amongst parents family poster in the window, but you do need somewhere to store them.. we had a parent who filled her spare room with them.. they also increased the amount they would give to us if we booked 2 collections at the same time... ours were a year apart but that was fine and we had better deal for the second collection, so may be worth asking if they are still doing that.. and we could also put handbags and belts in them, amazing how heavy some of them can be..

Music magpie pay 50p per item (cd's and dvd's) and will send free collection boxes and posters and will collect when full , we have just started this to do as an ongoing fundraiser, just register online , I began the bag2school initiative several years ago for the local village school and 3 collections per year raises between £200- £300 each time .

is pleased to say thanks to one of our children's nanny/ grandma putting in application , we have successfully been shortlisted in the Heart of essex community award and for a chance of a share of £8000 to buy some new furniture, so if you read the |essex chronicle and wish to vote either by paper or online we are no: 037 - would love your support :1b

I was in Asda recently, and at the till the cashier gave me about 5/6 tokens and directed me to put them into one of the boxes at the front of the store. There were 3 boxes each with a different cause, the one with the most tokens would win some funding

Might be worth seeing if your local Asda does something you could be involved in. :1b

our local Asda does this too ...

 

we used to be able to apply or ask them for help in the past and have got some things from them for raffles, etc.. and they gave us a Santas Grotto that they had used in store even delivering it to us.. think they are making it a bit more universal and known, before you had to know to ask..

 

ours are currently the 3 closest primary schools have been for over a month now so dont know how often they change them..

 

Waitrose do the same so may be worth a visit to one of them if you have one locally.. ( ours in next to Asda!)
