Eyfs Profile

Hello all

I hope you can help as i am getting very confused trying to find out how to put together a profile for one of my 3 year olds who is about to change nurseries. This will be the first profile I have provided for another setting. I have the Assessment Scales from the Statutory Framework Guide for the EYFS and have found a useful reference sheet with all of these on on The National Strategies web site. I have found a 'progress record' on the Sound Learning web site that another childminder used when a child transferred into my care-i am not quite sure if this is right though. I have plenty of info from observations and evidence and daily diaries so i am really looking for a way to collate it all that is simple to complete and for the nurseries to use. I have been looking for ages and am sure my tiredness is causing me to miss an obvious solution!!!

Any advice will be appreciated as i read lots of helpful stuff on here all the time!

Thanks

sj

wooah doodlebugs do you mean a profile???? if so this child is too young to be 'profiled'......if you are using development matters then he would be on age bands but he doesnt need to be on profile until he is reception age (the september of the year he turns five)....is this something the nursery have asked you to do?

Hi finleysmaid

nursery haven't asked for anything. she is going from a day nursery to a school nursery but will also still be in my care 14 hours a week. should a provide a progress report? or something else? i received a progress report for 1 of the children i mind from another child minder when he moved to my care he was 20 months old. (she moved away from the area) i am using the Areas of Learning and Development with the development matters column for observations and planning.

Whilst in nursery we do not fill out the reception profile that Finleysmaid talks of we do actually fill out a profile for our 3 and 4 year olds!!!

I work in Worcestershire and they provided settings with the Worcestershire pathway profile which uses the age bands and stages of development for their progress to be tracked.

It has changed since it first came out because we use our learning journeys alongside these profiles now, and so all of the evidence such as photos/ obs in the learning journey etc can be linked to something from the profile but we use the profile only to serve as highlighting what areas we think the children have reached. In fact in all truth it makes it easier at the end of each term to then fill out the online version so our head can use the info for graphs etc!!!!!!!

At the back of our learning journeys we have a sheet with all 6 areas split into the smaller areas and we mark in the box a date when we have seen something to write about in that area.

You know I just read this back and its not making much sense!! Too early maybe for me to explain properly.

The crux of my post is that nurseries and childminders will all use their own version of an idea to track their nursery children but it may well be called a profile but would be different to the reception profile!!!

Good luck!

phew doodlebug had me in a panic there!! :o a progress report for nursery i'm sure would be welcomed (they are supposed to work with others settings) perhaps something under the six areas of learning would be fine ...keep it simple and make sure it is ratified by her parents before you pass it on. xD
