Just wondering if anyone can advise me?! Im a NQT and starting a new job in Foundation Unit teaching the Reception children.

We are carrying out a type of baseline assessment with the children but Im just wondering about tracking, I have a format for Phonics tracking but what about other areas of learning? Am I supposed to track children under all 6 areas? Also just another cheeky question when do you generally start guided reading? I was thinking Spring term but I may start earlier with books with no words/pictures to get them used to guided reading sessions, I have one morning dedicated to guided reading time!
Thanks in advance!

I would get a copy of the Early reading DVD

http://nationalstrategies.standards.dcsf.gov.uk/node/150501

Very good at modelling how small group shared reading can be developed in line with children's phonics phases before moving into a more structured guided reading group session.

There is also an e module re early reading which may be of some use:

Good luck in your NQT year.

I do guided reading as a small focussed group time and start this after the first 3 - 4 weeks and we do shared reading in this time and as the children progress is grows into guided reading as and when the children are ready. I have a guided reading group and so does my TA so we do this onece a week to begin with and by Feb it moves on to twice a week.

I use look listen and note in Development matters as well as my usual observations and track the reading that way.
