Beau maybe you can help me with this - are there any guidelines for Scotland about outdoor surfaces for 'trim trail' type fixed equipment i.e. if I get a low trim trail built do I need a safety surface? Same question about wheeled toys - do we have to use them on a safety surface or is tarmac ok?
Also (sorry, nearly done :D ) any places for outdoor grants?
Thanks anyone in Scotland! Good idea this regional bit.

Have you tried the Schotish Early Years site?
http://www.ltscotlan...years/index.asp
if you put outdoor in the search it comes up with some interesting articles

Play, while it cannot change the external realities of children’s lives, can be a vehicle for children to explore and enjoy their differences and similarities and to create, even for a brief time, a more just world where everyone is an equal and valued participant.

You might find this of use to you.

We have had a number of grants from the lottery fund and we also applied for one from Lloyds TSB.

Beau that's great thanks, interesting to see there are no legal requirements for a safety surface yet. I hate the tarmac bit but for financial reasons only half our play area was covered in a safety surface (before I came to the school). Me thinks I will be applying for lottery funding :D
Thanks,

Another consideration is the move towards removing safety surfaces
