Hi -
This post is just to make you feel welcome if you're a bit worried about the fact that there are no posts in this forum. There's a very good reason for this - we've only just opened it up!
We've had a number of parents joining, which is a great thing. And of course most of the professionals involved in early years childcare are also parents, so actually there is a huge number of parents on the site. But until now they have been posting in the general forums because this one hasn't been available.
If you'd like to discuss any aspect of children's care and education from the parents perspective (How can I tell if I'm choosing a good setting? Is my child secure enough to go to nursery? How should I react if - etc etc etc) and get feedback from the people who look after your children, then here's the place to do it. Don't be shy - we're as friendly online as we are in your pre-schools! :D
Steve.

Great idea to have a parents forum, Steve!
One thing I realised recently when looking around preschools for my daughter, is how many different types of settings there are out there, and how nerve-wracking it is trying to choose one!
As you probably know from my posts, I can't resist talking about my children - somehow, they come into most of my posts in some way.
But it will be nice doing it here in an allotted place!
Cheers!

Hi Nicola -
I know exactly what you mean. In fact the initial motivation for setting up our own nursery was the bad experience we had with our first child, Jamie - and our desire to avoid repeating the experience with Annie! So we basically set up Fiddlesticks as the place we'd like to send our own children to, and worked our way through the practicalities from there. (Thinking about it, I'm not sure that's a nursery establishment model I'd recommend...)
And consequently, Annie spent two happy years at a nursery run from our home, and most of the 18 children who came to Fiddlesticks ignored the official name and called it Annie's House! :D
It's amazing that parents are expected to somehow know what is good and bad about these first days - what to look for and what to avoid. How to treat staff and managers, what to ask them, and how to make the critical decision. So I hope parents will feel comfortable about using this area, and maybe ask the questions they feel awkward about when first turning up at their children's first educational establishment!
