Can anyone tell me, if I install prams on several computers in the nursery so various members of staff can be assessing children at the same time will all the information be updated on all computers...Duh I know its been a long week. Will I need staff to save to memory stick and update each computer...so sorry I cant think straight at the moment.

another question, would anyone experienced with PRAMS (ie Steve) be willing to attend an in house training session for PRAMS at a Bristol nursery for all heads of rooms, manager, deputy and provider? just throwing it out there, I could discuss expenses or inhouse training costs etc. Just want to get everything spot on with this new nursery.

Maybe Steve could have an army of PRAMS specialists who can travel the globe training settings and generally spreading the good news.... :o

I think Steve and Helen are away for a few days. No doubt he'll spot this and let you know what he thinks, cupcake.

Maz - They're back

Hi cupcake,

No they won't all update each other, they'd all have their own setting file and it'd be a nightmare to synchronise manually. What you can do is put your setting file on a network drive that is accessible by all computers, you can then set up each copy of PRAMS to use this shared setting file. You won't all be able to update it at once, in fact PRAMS will only let one copy of PRAMS use the file at a time, but this prevents the data being messed up. I doubt that you would all need to work on PRAMS simultaneously though, if you just make sure you close PRAMS down when you've finished it's likely that when someone tries to open the file nobody else will be using it at the same time.

As for the training I've got no idea, I doubt I'd be able to do it as I'm going to be starting a full time MSc in a couple of weeks.

I'd wondered when you were off - will you be gone forever or will you pop back every now and then to see how PRAMS is going? Good luck!

Thanks Maz. I'll still be working on PRAMS for maintenance and updates, and of course I'll keep an eye on what happens on the forum.

The problem I will have is that when the nursery and pre school is to occupancy we will have over 22 full time members of staff. So there will be at least five members of staff all having their non contact time at once..does that mean that only one of them will be able access prams at a time, if so, i don't think it will be feasable to introduce it to the setting. Have now realised I can use the tutorials for the training part.

I'm afraid so, PRAMS was never designed to be a distributed system. It would be really nice to be able to make it work in that way but it would take a lot of time and effort, basically a complete redesign. Also it would require much higher expertise to set up in a setting and maintain. I don't think we'll be able to do this in the forseeable future.

Hi Cupcake. I dont know if this is any help to you at all, but one of the settings I work with which is very large, has the 'luxury' of an admin person who does the inputting for PRAMS. It did create some other challenges that they have managed to solve, but is that an option for you?

I'd be interested in hearing more about that mundia - how it's working out etc.

Cupcake - sorry for not getting back to you earlier, and it sounds like you've had all your questions answered now anyway. As Maz mentioned we were all off enjoying ourselves last week and it's taken me a little while to get properly back up to speed.

Just to re-iterate Matt's comments, we initially envisaged PRAMS as a program for smaller nurseries, and although it can cope with shared access (ie from more than one computer) it doesn't have the facility for multiple simultaneous users, and is unlikely to do so in the future unless we decide to re-design it from the bottom up. This is unlikely at the moment at least until the new EYFS structure is agreed and finalised.

Unfortunately we can't really do training either - as this would pretty much be down to me, and I would consequently not be here wandering the corridors of the FSF. But as you mention, the tutorials are available and growing in number, and if anyone has a particular aspect of PRAMS they would like covered we'll be happy to make a new one! :o

Thanks Steve, and welcome back after your hols. I am still tempted to use PRAMS, just going to have to think how I can manage it.
