Hi all -
Was expecting either a whole bunch of queries or a whole bunch of problems, but instead it's all eerily quiet...

Aside from Maz, that is, but then you'd expect that! Has no-one actually tried to run PRAMS yet or are you all busily trying it out? :o

No problems Shirel. I know what trying to find time can be like at the moment! :o

unexpected snow day for me today so I hope to get a bit more time to have a dummy run....

I tried a dummy run yesterday but couldn't work out what to do to make it save after I had made changes on the children's progress page. I didn't highlight it because the most likely cause is that I've never used this sort of software before and am being a dunce.

Had a go yesterday - need to read instructions!!!
Struggled with settings, think I've managed to do it with file button?
Tried deleting children - intermittent success
Added a child, but it wouldn't let me update record

It's most likely that I need to read what to do instead of just having a go!

Not a question of being a dunce Upsy Daisy. We're trying to design it with the end user in mind so it's more likely to be our failure if it's not obvious what to do. Working out where you're not sure of what to do or what's not working correctly for you is the first step in rectifying a potential problem with the program. :o

Thanks chaps for your replies. I was just after a general feeling from people since we've never made it available to so many before (80 people downloaded it yesterday). So very high level comments or problem reporting is fine - such as:

  • Any problem downloading?
  • Did it install straightforwardly?
  • Does the dummy data file load up ok?
Etc.

We've already added new code to the program and, for example, have decided to include the 'also known as' field wherever a child's name crops up, following Maz's suggestion. So we intend quite a bit of development and refinement over the next couple of weeks.

Hi Steve,

I'm one of the people who downloaded it, had a quick look without the instructions, and decided I need to devote more time to it over the weekend! We have a system given to us by the LEA which I use just to keep them happy and my staff aren't impressed, so it would be nice to find a system we all feel actually helps us, the children and their families.

I haven't downloaded it yet - I enjoyed your 'tour' of the first part and was waiting to look at the next one before having a go, to see how time consuming it will be as against our own system; whether to run with yours and our own together or if that would be too much duplication.

Steve, I've just tried to download it to my laptop although it is already on the main computer. I got a message "PRAMS cannot be installed on systems with JRE version smaller than 1.6"

Means nothing to me but I couldn't install....

Simcity - go to resources and scroll down to the bottom where you will find PRAMS and Progress Matters. Also, use 'view new posts for this week'. There's several discussions there.

I posted a 'wow' message as a first impression kind of thing but I havent' gone any further simply due to lack of time
I didn't want to download and not have time to 'have a go properly' so it is on my very important to do list.

No doubt I will be here shouting Help! I clicked this and that happened and then I did so an so' :o

I'm with Geraldine here! I don't really want to see any more snow but if it gave me some time to download this and have a good look around it I might change my mind :o . Will let you know if I have any issues, etc once I've got some quiet time to look at it.
