Two Hands Poem

Here are several, there are lots more, and we change words to go with the time of year/activity. I am sure I read the same idea somewhere else on the site but cannot find it again!

1

Sometimes I might upset you

Because I am so small

And always leave my fingerprints

on furniture and walls.

But everyday I grow a bit

And soon I'll be so tall

That all those little fingerprints

Will be so hard to recall.

So here's a special handprint

Just so that you can say

This is how my fingers looked

When I placed them here today

2

I miss you when we're not together

I'm growing up so fast

See how big I've gotten

Since you saw me last?

As I grow, I'll change a lot,

The years will fly right by.

You'll wonder how I grew so quick

When and where and why?

So save this card in a safe place

So that you can recall

Lots of special memories

Of me when I was small.

3

My dirty little handprint

I've left on every wall

And on the drawers and tabletops

I've really marked them all

But here is one that won't rub off

I'm giving it to you

Because I am so thankful

For a (mother/father/gran) just like you!

4

These little hands can wave Hello

Or put smudges on the wall

They can fold in prayer, throw a kiss

Or reach up so very tall

They'll clasp your hand for a little stroll

Or shape a ball from clay

But most of all, they'll stay with you

When I'm grown up and far away

5

There used to be so many

Of my finger prints to see

On furniture and walls and things

From sticky, grubby me.

But if you stop and think awhile

You’ll see I’m growing fast

These little moments disappear

You can’t bring back the past.

So here is a small reminder

To keep, not throw away

Of tiny hands and how they looked

To make you smile someday

It was good of Inge to type them up for everyone. I think I must be a very strange and cold hearted person as I found them all to be far too icky and cheesy. However, I will admit to using no.1 as most parents do like that kind of thing and I wouldn't let my personal views stop me from doing anything I think others would like. ( I bet you all feel sorry for my own children having a mum like me! :o )

Ok Mousebat - hate to say it but i too find them too much- but parents like them and so do others, I bow to the freedom of choice and use them occasionally (under pressure)

if you think they are cheesy how about this one-

Make a small box (Or buy one) and each child decorates it with sequins etc etc, get the child to catch a kiss inside the box (they all try to look for it) tie it up with ribbon and add the following rhyme

Whenever you are lonely

Or even feeling blue

You only have to hold this gift

And know I think of you

you never can unwrap it

Please leave the ribbon tied

just hold the box close to your heart

its filled with love inside.

:o
