Can anyone help with this? A new parent today expressed concern that her work wont let her have time off to settle her son in playgroup. I seem to remember hearing of an employment law that was set up for this kind of thing but could only find out about flexible working on the DTi site. Am I wrong? :o

Yes, there has been a new employment law that allows employees the right to flexible working hours as long as they have been working for the company for over six months. However, the employer has the right to deny the employee this option if it is deemed to be 'harmful' to their business!! Go figure! :o
Without knowing the situation of the parent at work it would be impossible to give an answer. However, on the face of it it does seem a little harsh...

This is what you're looking for rea, but not sure it covers a one off situation. :o Hope it helps your parent. :)
